DUNAJAM is not a festival. Imagine a birthday party, that's how it works. Or something like a mix between a picnic and a pilgrimage, if you want to be invited send an e-mail to dunajam [AT] gmail.com The waiting list is quite long since this can't be done with more than 150 people so that's the limit, therefore be prepared to wait quite a bit before you will get an answer.

To speed up the process, with your e-mail send your full name and surname and those of the people that want to come with you, also send info about the place where you intend to start your trip so that it can be better coordinated with other pilgrims. (∴) take it easy & keep it on the down low

bands that played at DUNAJAM

MOTORPSYCHO
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorpsycho
You never quite know what to expect from these Norvegians. Their music can generally be defined as psychedelic rock, but they also mix in elements from metal, jazz, rock, pop and many other musical styles.

COLOUR HAZE
www.myspace.com/colourhaze
Their approach has always been jazz-like in structure – freewheeling improvisation that still maintains a sense of structure... Slamming drums at once with silent percussive suggestion at the other. Hendrixian guitar playing. Locked and throbbing bass. All combined and stirred and baked to perfection resulting in a band that, for what they do, has no equal, is at the top of their game.

ROSE KEMP
www.myspace.com/rosekemp
Daughter of British folk icons, Rose Kemp tried her hand at her parents' music, singing in and writing for her mother's trio when she was only 15 and releasing a solo album, before she realized that her interests truly lay in harder-edged electric guitar-oriented rock songs. With her band Kemp decided to work and tour as a solo artist, looping her voice to add harmonies and depth to her live shows.

ON TRIAL
www.myspace.com/ontrial
Caught in time warp of their own devising, vocalist Bo, guitarists Henrik and Bjarni, bassist Nikolaj, and drummer Anders play psychedelic music reminiscent of late-'60s acts like Love and 13th Floor Elevators.

SIC ALPS
www.sicalps.com
A messy, gritty indie rock affair rooted in noise pop and the Velvet Underground's seminal soporific lo-fi, formed in the early 2000s as a collaboration between Mike Donovan and Matt Hartman formerly of the Coachwhips and guitarist for Cat Power; the two met in the late '90s while on tour with their respective bands. Starting with Semi-Streets, their cassette-only debut single released on Folding in the fall of 2004, Sic Alps released a little over half a dozen singles over the course of the next four years, along with three EPs and a full-length album, A Long Way Around to a Shortcut on Drag City, Siltbreeze, Animal Disguise etc.

DŸSE
www.myspace.com/dysexxx
Originally a side-project for drummer Jari and guitarist Andre it has turned into the monster duo before us now. Dÿse (pronounced sorta like “Doozah”) crank out devil-may care noise and assorted silliness; you get the sense that these are having a blast being obnoxious and harming eardrums, and that has always been a winning combo in pretty much everyone's book. From the psych-folk of “Monstermann” to the bass-driven, slightly minutemen-y sludge of “Mann Aus Gold”, to the cruel thrash of other stuff on their repertoire and in between, Dyse serve up madcap laughs and tasty slabs of noise. They have made their bones by playing live throughout Europe, and are a glorious mess on stage or on a bunch of dirt. To anyone that has seen them the duo from eastern Germany must have provided enough tasty treats so far to whet the appetite of those into a fun, but deliberate sonic assault.

DEAN ALLEN FOYD
& THE GIMMICKS

www.myspace.com/deanallenfoyd
Time to freak out and groove to the psychedelic sounds of Dean Allen Foyd... A Stockholm based band which consisted of six members has turned into a quartet. Francis Rencoret/vocals, guitars and theremin formerly of Roachpowder, Fredrik Cronsten/bass formerly of Mother Superior, Alex Vincent/guitar and last but not least, Wille Alin/drums and every instrument he can place his hands on! Elements of bands like Cream, Captain Beefheart and Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd can be heard, their music consists of a wide range of styles that goes from jazz to delta blues, from soul to acid rock. Slide guitars, trippy theremin sounds and explosive jazz druming is too be expected. The band enters the studio in April to record their debut album and will be showcasing these new songs.

from the New York MoMA, we highlighted the larger-than-life lady at the entrance to the Counter Space gallery. Now we’d like to give some background on the music video on the opposite side of the entrance. Juliet and I came across the music video for Robert Rotifer’s “The Frankfurt Kitchen” (2008) early in our research and were thrilled to make contact with the artist, who incidentally will be coming to perform the song at our public program

SIENA ROOT
www.myspace.com/sienaroot
In their seemingly tireless quest to pay homage to the early seventies long after the rock formations unearthed back then have dropped off the charts, Swedish bands like Halmstad's Spiritual Beggars, Örebro's Witchcraft, and Stockholm's Siena Root (the subject here) gleefully unearth the vibe and spirit of '70s hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock as though Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, the Groundhogs and Leaf Hound were their contemporaries. By spending several years on the road, delivering groove guitar riffings and swirling sitars Siena Root in particular have built up a solid reputation thorugh the years of being one helluva live act.

With frontierswomen the likes of Shazzula you can't really go wrong, imagine young and inexperienced Iggy in Joan Jett's body messing with Nico's grey matter. aqua Nebula Oscillator blend modern heavy psychedelia with the psychedelic waves of the sixties garage punk adding some darkness too.

CEDARWELL
www.myspace.com/cedarwell
Cedarwell is a Wisconsin folk band fronted by Erik G. Neave, and it’s refreshingly diverse for an “acoustic” band of sorts. The arrangements are carefully plotted with the instruments never dominate over each other – some songs feature bells, others synth, and still others keys, harmonica, what have you, all complementing the acoustic guitars.

Dozer

DOZER
http://www.myspace.com/dozerrock
Dozer quickly progressed beyond their early influences and created a style of their own incorporating modern elements into their classic heavy rock sound. A sound that always has been intensely heavy but yet also strongly song and melody driven by the distinctive vocals of singer Fredrik Nordin.

Causa Sui

CAUSA SUI
www.myspace.com/causasui
The desire for "freedom of will" in the superlative, metaphysical sense, such as still holds sway, unfortunately, in the minds of the half-educated, the desire to bear the entire and ultimate responsibility for one's actions oneself, and to absolve God, the world, ancestors, chance, and society therefrom, involves nothing less than to be precisely this causa sui

YUSSUF JERUSALEM
www.myspace.com/ridersofallah
The best French death-pop export since Jaques Dutronc is Yussuf Jerusalem. A cloud of reverb that captures your brain before a piercing ray of black metal fries it like a spring roll in two months old peanut oil as dark as the night sky over the south pole in June. It's the year of the Tiger it's the year of Yussuf Jerusalem.

as their name partly suggests deals in extended work-outs that are heavily indebted to acid-rock, space-rock, prog-rock and early hard-rock or, to keep it short: anything recorded between 1968 and 1975 that involves mastodon guitar freak-outs, a mind-expanding atmosphere and a rhythm section that alternately make you shake your ass and your head dazzle with their complexity.
